Brooks was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Jan. 14, 1968. The family lived in Prairie City, Iowa. They moved to Newark, Illinois, in 1969, then to Belmond in 1970. He started school in the Belmond Schools before the family moved to Anita, Iowa, when he was in the fourth grade.

I lost my father to the Coronavirus April 9th, and Brooks Memorial Home helped my family, and I so much during our loss. Ms Jackie is a wonderful woman, and I would like to have met her under different circumstances, but I'm glad I met her nonetheless. Kati, thank you for being so honest with us, and for sharing this heart-wrenching news that we just don't want to believe, but must. And as one of the several WIU faculty members who knew Brooks as part of the family, we are saddened to hear of his passing. Thank you, Kati, and to my entire WIU Family, I thinking of you all.

The war erupted as a result of the dispute between Prussia and Austria over the administration of Schleswig-Holstein, which the two of them had conquered from Denmark and agreed to jointly occupy at the end of the Second Schleswig War in 1864. The crisis started on 26 January 1866, when Prussia protested the decision of the Austrian Governor of Holstein to permit the estates of the duchies to call up a united assembly, declaring the Austrian decision a breach of the principle of joint sovereignty. Austria replied on 7 February, asserting that its decision did not infringe on Prussia's rights in the duchies.
When the German Diet responded by voting for a partial mobilization against Prussia on 14 June, Bismarck claimed that the German Confederation had ended. The Prussian Army invaded Hanover, Saxony and the Electorate of Hesse on 15 June. Italy declared war on Austria on 20 June.
Prussia could equip its armies with breech-loading rifles and later with new Krupp breech-loading artillery but the Austrian economy was suffering from the effects of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 and the Second Italian War of Independence. Austria had only one bank, the Creditanstalt, and the state was heavily in debt. The Austro-Prussian War ended quickly and was fought mainly with existing weapons and munitions, which reduced the influence of economic and industrial power relative to politics and military culture. By the time the Austrians were fully assembled, they would be unable to concentrate against one Prussian army without having the other two instantly attack their flank and rear, threatening their lines of communication. Austrian conscripts had to be trained almost from scratch when they were recalled to their units on the outbreak of war.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family! From this thread alone he is loved and remembered. My heart breaks for his dearest, best friends & family, who are some of my dearest best friends & family. So very sad to hear that we have lost another of our family members. Thanks for the heads up Kati....this one cuts close. I'm especially sad for his family and those of you who were really close to him.
I have such amazing memories tied up in the Magnificent 7, that this hits the heart hard. My love goes out to all that had the chance to know Brooks. I am sad, but my memories of him are bring me joy that I knew him, acted with him, loved him. They do not have plans yet for services, but I asked that they keep me posted so I can share with all of you. This website has been developed with those connections in mind.
